About Me
My name is Dessalee Cook and I have two passions as an educator. The first is to help students become comfortable with technology as a learning tool and to prepare them to become critical thinkers by introducing lessons that are not only engaging but meaningful- we us Web 2.0 tools, social media sites like Edmodo and Edublog, interactive learning tools like Voki, standard Microsoft Suite products, and visual organizational tools like Kidspiration. These are just a few of the technology tools my students are proficient in. Secondly, as a 21st Century teacher it is my job to prepare students for a global economy and to teach them the skills to succeed in life. These objective are met by using the ideas set forth in Love and Logic and Harry Wong, First Days of School.
Of course, not all my knowledge was aquired through life experiences. I started at Michigan State University and earned a Bachelor in Science Degree and worked retail for several years. Later in my life, I went on to earn my teaching certificate from Oakland University and, more recently, I completed my studies at the University of Michigan-Flint and earned my Masters in Technology in Education. The best part about earning my masters was the thesis I wrote on using online communication systems to help students become better writers. It opened my eyes on how educators can motivate students not only to write better, but to enjoy it.
